Freelance Social Videographer

Location: Leeds / On-Location / Remote

Employment Type: Freelance

Salary: Competitive rates, agreed at interview

The Role

Story+ is a team of video storytellers helping regional and national brands do social media video better, whilst also running social video platforms of our own from the heart of Leeds .

From stand-out video campaigns for our commercial clients, to creating viral local stories for the Leeds+ editorial platform, our videographers push the boundaries of digital content creation every time. Whilst we’re expanding our full-time staff team, we’re also on the look out for freelance videographers to work with us on an adhoc basis: talented creatives with a real eye for detail and ‘no limits approach’ to their craft.

You’ll have a depth of experience commanding shoots and know everything that’s needed to bring a story to life through video - from good planning right through to the final edit.

About Story+

Our story began with the launch of social-first news platform Leeds+ towards the end of 2020 - mid-lockdown and with the world at a standstill. In the time since, our small team of experienced digital storytellers have reached millions on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube, producing engaging native social video features on all things Leeds.

But it doesn’t stop there. Under the wider Story+ brand we help businesses communicate their own story too - working with clients to engage, market to and build loyal audiences through social media video.

Whether it's through these partnerships with brands up and down the country, or in the ways we engage Leeds+ audiences cross-platform, we want you to join us in shooting for social: stopping thumbs scrolling and standing out from the noise.

The Details

We’re looking for freelance video storytellers - well versed in video production at all stages. You’ll be a competent self-shooter and producer, with experience filming on professional camera equipment. You’ll be an advanced user of Adobe Premiere Pro.

Specific tasks and responsibilities will vary, but we hope to build a small pool of reliable freelancers whom we can call upon for specific shoots, edits or even entire campaigns.

All shooting and editing equipment will typically be provided by us, unless you’re bringing a bespoke piece of requested kit, or if you prefer to use your own.  Shoots will take place on-location (typically within West Yorkshire but potentially anywhere in the UK), and you’ll also be welcome to join us at Story+ HQ on Greek Street in Leeds, especially if using our edit systems.

All mileage expenses for journeys to and from shoots will be paid in addition to the agreed rate, which we will discuss with you at interview, but journeys to and from our office will not.

Responsibilities

+ Shooting and editing high quality short and long-form video for social media.

+ Often working on specific commercial video projects from beginning to end.

+ Helping to plan video shoots for our clients.

+ Self-shooting and producing on location, managing all content requirements.

+ Bringing compelling narratives together in the edit using the Adobe Creative Cloud, and designing simple graphics to bring the pictures to life.

+ Liaising directly with clients on our behalf during the production process.

+ Working to tight deadlines, sometimes producing stories for publication on the same day.

+ Embracing the Leeds+ way of telling stories, sometimes finding original local stories, contacting contributors and shooting and editing shorts for Leeds+ social platforms.
